Cambodian Civil War

The Cambodian Civil War (1967-1975) was a conflict between the Cambodian government, led by Prince Norodom Sihanouk and later Lon Nol, and the communist Khmer Rouge, led by Pol Pot. The war was fueled by political instability, social unrest, and the influence of neighboring Vietnam's conflict. The Khmer Rouge sought to establish a radical communist regime, ultimately seizing power in April 1975. Their rule resulted in severe atrocities and genocide, leading to the deaths of an estimated two million people. The war's aftermath drastically changed Cambodia’s social and political landscape, leaving lasting scars on the nation.
