Cambodian history
Cambodia has a rich history marked by the rise and fall of powerful kingdoms, especially the Khmer Empire from the 9th to 15th centuries, known for its stunning temples, including Angkor Wat. After periods of colonial rule by France in the 19th and early 20th centuries, Cambodia faced turmoil during the Khmer Rouge regime (1975-1979) under Pol Pot, which led to severe genocide. The country has since rebuilt, transitioning to a constitutional monarchy and experiencing economic growth, yet it continues to face challenges related to governance, human rights, and development. Today, Cambodia is a culturally vibrant nation with deep historical roots.
