Khmer script
Khmer script is the writing system used for the Khmer language, predominantly spoken in Cambodia. It consists of 33 consonants, 23 vowels, and various diacritics, allowing for the representation of both sounds and meanings. The script is an abugida, meaning each character represents a consonant with an inherent vowel sound, which can be modified with additional symbols. Developed from an ancient script around the 7th century, Khmer script is visually distinct, featuring intricate curves and loops, and plays an essential role in Cambodia's culture, literature, and religious texts.
