Khmer language

Khmer is the official language of Cambodia, spoken by about 16 million people. It belongs to the Austroasiatic language family, which also includes languages like Vietnamese. Khmer uses its own unique script, derived from the ancient Brahmi script, and consists of 33 consonants, 23 vowels, and additional diacritics. The language is known for its rich vocabulary influenced by Sanskrit and Pali, mainly due to historical ties to Indian culture and religion. Khmer grammar is distinct from Indo-European languages, relying more on word order and context than inflections. It plays a vital role in Cambodian identity and culture.
