Baselines

In general knowledge, a baseline refers to a standard or point of reference against which things can be measured or compared. It provides a starting set of information or data that helps us understand changes or progress over time. For example, in a research study, a baseline reading might be the initial measurements taken before any intervention. By comparing later results to this baseline, researchers can evaluate the effectiveness of that intervention. Essentially, baselines help establish norms and allow us to assess improvements, declines, or trends in various contexts, from science to everyday decision-making.
