Barotrauma
Barotrauma refers to physical damage that occurs when there is a sudden change in pressure, typically related to environments like deep water or high altitudes. This condition affects air-filled spaces in the body, such as the ears, sinuses, and lungs. For instance, when a diver descends quickly, the increased water pressure can cause pain or injury if the air pressure inside the body does not equalize. Similarly, in jet travel, rapid ascent can lead to discomfort or damage in the ears. Effective equalization techniques are essential to prevent barotrauma during pressure changes.
