Ballcourt

A ballcourt is an ancient Mesoamerican athletic field used primarily for a ritual ballgame, which held cultural, religious, and political significance. These courts typically featured a long, narrow design with sloped walls and a central playing area. Players used their hips to hit a rubber ball through stone rings mounted on the walls, and the game often symbolized themes of duality and struggle between life and death. Ballcourts were found in many ancient civilizations, including the Maya and Aztecs, and often served as important communal and ceremonial spaces within their societies.
