Autoimmune Cholangitis
Autoimmune cholangitis is a condition where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the bile ducts, which are important for transporting bile from the liver to the intestines. This leads to inflammation, damage, and scarring of the bile ducts, disrupting the liver’s function and causing bile to build up. Symptoms may include fatigue, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), and itching. The exact cause is not known, but it is more common in individuals with other autoimmune diseases. Treatment typically involves medications to reduce inflammation and manage symptoms.
