Atonement Theory
Atonement Theory refers to the explanation of how humanity can be reconciled with God after sin. It addresses the need for forgiveness and restoration. Different theories exist, such as the Moral Influence Theory, which suggests Jesus’ life and teachings inspire people to change, and the Penal Substitution Theory, which posits that Jesus took the punishment for human sins, allowing for reconciliation with God. In essence, atonement explores ways to bridge the gap caused by wrongdoing and restore a relationship between humans and the divine, often highlighting themes of sacrifice, redemption, and forgiveness.
