Asian carp

Asian carp refers to a group of fish species originally from Asia, including bighead, silver, and grass carp. They were introduced to the United States in the 1970s to help control algae in fish farms. However, they escaped into the wild and have since spread rapidly, threatening local ecosystems by outcompeting native fish for food and habitat. Their swift reproduction and lack of natural predators in North American waters make them a significant concern for biodiversity, particularly in the Great Lakes region, where they could disrupt fishing industries and aquatic ecosystems.
