Antiphospholipid Syndrome
Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system mistakenly creates antibodies against phospholipids, which are fats found in cell membranes. This can lead to abnormal blood clotting, increasing the risk of deep vein thrombosis or stroke. People with APS may also experience pregnancy complications, such as miscarriages. The exact cause is unclear, but it can occur alongside other autoimmune diseases like lupus. Management typically involves blood-thinning medications to reduce clotting risk, along with monitoring and supportive care as needed.
