Anomie (sociological concept)
Anomie is a sociological concept that refers to a state of normlessness or breakdown of social norms in society. It occurs when individuals feel disconnected from shared values, leading to confusion and a lack of purpose. This can happen during significant social changes, crises, or rapid economic developments, causing people to feel lost or alienated. The term was popularized by sociologist Émile Durkheim, who argued that anomie can lead to social problems like crime and mental health issues, as individuals struggle to navigate a world without clear guidelines or community support.
