American Expeditionary Forces
The American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) were the U.S. military forces sent to Europe during World War I, primarily under the command of General John J. Pershing. Established in 1917, the AEF played a crucial role in supporting Allied powers against the Central Powers. They participated in significant battles, such as the Battle of Argonne Forest, contributing to the eventual defeat of Germany in 1918. The AEF marked the first major deployment of American troops in a foreign conflict and demonstrated the United States' emergence as a global military power.
