Amanullah Khan
Amanullah Khan (1892-1960) was a prominent Afghan king who ruled from 1919 to 1929. He is best known for his ambitious modernization efforts aimed at transforming Afghanistan into a modern state, inspired by reforms in Turkey and other countries. He promoted education, women's rights, and infrastructure development. While he succeeded in gaining Afghanistan's independence from British influence after the Third Anglo-Afghan War, his reforms faced resistance from conservative factions. This tension ultimately led to his abdication in 1929. Despite his challenges, Amanullah Khan is remembered as a pioneering figure in Afghanistan's quest for modernization and national identity.
