Alpha particles

Alpha particles are a type of radiation emitted by certain unstable atomic nuclei during radioactive decay. They consist of two protons and two neutrons, which means they are essentially helium nuclei. Because of their relatively large mass and positive charge, alpha particles have low penetrating power and can be stopped by a sheet of paper or even human skin. However, if ingested or inhaled, they can cause significant damage to biological tissue. Alpha radiation is often associated with heavy elements like uranium and radium, and it plays a key role in understanding nuclear reactions and radioactivity.
