26th of July Movement

The 26th of July Movement was a revolutionary campaign led by Fidel Castro in Cuba beginning in 1953. Its name comes from the date of an unsuccessful attack on the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba, where Castro aimed to overthrow the authoritarian regime of Fulgencio Batista. Despite initial failure and imprisonment, Castro's movement gained popular support and ultimately succeeded in 1959, leading to Batista's downfall and the establishment of a socialist government in Cuba. The movement is significant in Cuban history, symbolizing the struggle for social justice and independence from foreign influence.
