26th of July Movement (organization)
The 26th of July Movement was a Cuban revolutionary organization founded in 1953 by Fidel Castro and others to overthrow the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. Named after the failed attack on the Moncada Barracks on July 26, 1953, the movement aimed to establish a democratic government in Cuba. After years of guerrilla warfare and political struggle, it succeeded in January 1959, leading to the establishment of a socialist government. The movement is significant for sparking Cuba’s revolutionary change and shaping its subsequent political landscape.
