
Yerebatan Sarnıcı
Yerebatan Sarnıcı, also known as the Basilica Cistern, is an ancient underground water reservoir located in Istanbul, Turkey. Built during the Byzantine Empire in the 6th century, it supplied water to the Great Palace of Constantinople. The vast, dimly lit chamber features impressive columns, some decorated with intricate carvings, and holds around 80,000 cubic meters of water. Today, it functions as a museum, showcasing the engineering ingenuity of its time, and is renowned for its stunning ambiance, including reflected light dancing on the water's surface and historical features like the upside-down Medusa heads.
