Yamamoto Tsunetomo
Yamamoto Tsunetomo was a Japanese samurai and philosopher, best known for his work "Hagakure," written in the early 18th century. "Hagakure," meaning "Hidden by the Leaves," is a collection of thoughts on the samurai way of life, emphasizing loyalty, honor, and the acceptance of death. Tsunetomo served as a retainer for the Nabeshima clan, and after the death of his lord, he became a recluse, reflecting on the samurai spirit. His writings have influenced both Japanese culture and the modern understanding of bushido, the code of conduct for samurai.
