Weeds of National Significance (WONS)

Weeds of National Significance (WONS) are specific invasive plant species identified in Australia that cause significant harm to the environment, economy, and human health. These weeds can spread rapidly, outcompeting native plants, damaging crops, and disrupting ecosystems. The Australian government recognizes 32 species as WONS and takes action to manage and control their spread through coordinated efforts at local, state, and national levels. This initiative aims to protect native biodiversity, agricultural productivity, and landscapes from the negative impacts of these invasive species.
