War of the Rebellion

The War of the Rebellion, commonly known as the American Civil War (1861-1865), was a conflict fought between the Northern states (the Union) and the Southern states that seceded from the Union (the Confederacy). Central issues included slavery, states' rights, and economic differences. The war resulted in significant social, political, and economic changes, including the abolition of slavery. Key battles include Gettysburg and Antietam. The conflict claimed over 600,000 lives and ended with the Union's victory, leading to the Reconstruction era, which aimed to rebuild and integrate the South into the United States.
