von Willebrand Disease Diagnosis and Classification
Von Willebrand Disease (vWD) is a bleeding disorder caused by a deficiency or dysfunction of von Willebrand factor, a protein essential for blood clotting. Diagnosis involves a thorough medical history, physical examination, and specific blood tests measuring the level and function of this factor, along with platelet function tests. vWD is classified into three types: Type 1 has mild deficiency; Type 2 has abnormal function (with several subtypes); and Type 3 is a severe deficiency. Each type varies in symptoms and severity, guiding treatment options to manage bleeding risks effectively.
