Type 1 von Willebrand Disease

Type 1 von Willebrand Disease is a genetic condition that causes your blood to have lower levels of a protein called von Willebrand factor (VWF), which helps blood clot when you bleed. Because of the reduced VWF, people may experience longer bleeding times, such as nosebleeds, easy bruising, or heavy menstrual periods. It is usually mild and can often be managed with medications or treatments that help improve clotting. Since it’s inherited, it runs in families, but many people with this type lead normal, healthy lives with proper care.
