Type 2 von Willebrand Disease
Type 2 von Willebrand Disease (VWD) is a bleeding disorder caused by a defect in the von Willebrand factor (VWF), a protein essential for blood clotting. In Type 2 VWD, the VWF is present but doesn't work properly, leading to difficult blood clot formation and increased bleeding risks. There are different subtypes, but overall, individuals may experience frequent nosebleeds, easy bruising, or heavy periods. It is inherited and diagnosed through specialized blood tests. Treatment may involve medications that increase VWF levels or help improve clotting function to reduce bleeding episodes.
