Venous thromboembolism

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a medical condition that encompasses two related issues: deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). DVT occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually in the legs, causing swelling and pain. If part of that clot breaks loose, it can travel to the lungs, leading to a PE, which can cause chest pain and breathing difficulties and may be life-threatening. VTE can result from factors like prolonged immobility, certain medical conditions, or hormone therapies and requires prompt medical attention for treatment and prevention.
