Valley Fever

Valley Fever, or coccidioidomycosis, is an infection caused by inhaling spores from a fungus found in soil, primarily in the southwestern United States. Symptoms often resemble the flu, including fever, cough, and fatigue, but can lead to more severe respiratory issues or other complications in some people. Most healthy individuals recover without treatment, but those with weakened immune systems are at greater risk. The infection can sometimes become chronic, requiring antifungal medication. Prevention mainly involves avoiding dusty areas, especially after rains, when the spores are more likely to be disturbed and spread into the air.
