Histoplasmosis

Histoplasmosis is a fungal infection caused by the fungus Histoplasma capsulatum, commonly found in soil, especially where bird or bat droppings are present. People can become infected by inhaling spores from the air. Many infected individuals experience mild or no symptoms, while others may develop flu-like symptoms, chest pain, or respiratory issues. In severe cases, especially in those with weakened immune systems, it can lead to serious complications. Treatment typically involves antifungal medications. Preventive measures include avoiding areas where the fungus is likely to be present.
