Uranium Mining
Uranium mining is the process of extracting uranium ore from the earth, which is primarily used as fuel for nuclear power plants. The ore is typically found in two main types of deposits: hard rock and sandstone. Miners employ various methods, including underground mining or open-pit mining, depending on the ore's location. After extraction, the ore undergoes milling to separate uranium from other materials. The resulting product, uranium concentrate or "yellowcake," is then processed to produce fuel for nuclear reactors, which generate electricity. Safety and environmental considerations are crucial throughout the mining and processing operations.
