Nevada Test Site

The Nevada Test Site, now known as the Nevada National Security Site, is a large area in southeastern Nevada where the United States historically conducted nuclear weapons tests. Covering about 1,375 square miles, it was used primarily during the Cold War era from the 1950s to the 1990s to develop and assess nuclear capabilities. The site features underground and surface tests designed to evaluate weapon performance while minimizing radioactive fallout. Today, it is still used for research, environmental monitoring, and non-nuclear experiments, with significant efforts devoted to safety and environmental cleanup.
