Kennedy’s "Nuclear Test Ban Treaty"

The Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, formally known as the Partial Test Ban Treaty, was signed in 1963 during President John F. Kennedy's administration. It aimed to prohibit nuclear weapons tests in the atmosphere, underwater, and in space, in order to reduce the spread of nuclear weapons and limit environmental damage. The treaty was a significant step in the Cold War era, promoting dialogue between the United States and the Soviet Union while addressing public concern over radiation and fallout. Although it did not eliminate existing nuclear weapons, it helped establish norms against nuclear testing.
