Upper Canada
Upper Canada was a historical region in what is now Ontario, Canada, established in 1791 when the British divided Quebec into two separate provinces: Upper Canada and Lower Canada (now Quebec). Upper Canada was primarily English-speaking and focused on agriculture, trade, and settlement. The capital was York, which later became Toronto. The region played a significant role in early Canadian history, including issues of governance, loyalty during the American Revolution, and the push for responsible government. In 1841, Upper Canada and Lower Canada were united into the Province of Canada, which eventually evolved into modern-day Ontario and Quebec.
