United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan

The United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP) was established in 1948 in response to the conflict over Kashmir, following the partition of British India into India and Pakistan. Its main goal was to mediate between the two countries and address the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The commission proposed a ceasefire and organized a plebiscite to allow the Kashmiri people to decide their future. Though it succeeded in establishing a ceasefire line, the plebiscite has never occurred, and the issue remains unresolved, leading to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.
