United Irish League

The United Irish League (UIL) was a political movement founded in 1898 in Ireland, aimed at promoting the interests of Irish nationalists who supported Home Rule – the idea of self-governing Ireland within the United Kingdom. It sought to unite various nationalist factions and increase political representation for Irish people. The UIL played a significant role in the early 20th century, particularly during the push for Home Rule, helping to galvanize support for Irish autonomy and influencing political developments leading up to the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922.
