Tunguska Event

The Tunguska event occurred on June 30, 1908, when a massive explosion devastated about 2,000 square kilometers of forest in Siberia, Russia. This explosion is believed to have been caused by the airburst of a meteor or asteroid entering Earth’s atmosphere. The force was equivalent to around 10-15 megatons of TNT, flattening trees and creating a shockwave felt hundreds of kilometers away. Remarkably, there were no confirmed human casualties, largely because the area was sparsely populated. The event remains a significant topic of study in astrophysics and planetary defense, highlighting the potential dangers of near-Earth objects.
