1908 explosion

The 1908 explosion refers to a catastrophic event that occurred on April 12, 1908, in Siberia, Russia, caused by the eruption of the Tunguska River region. Although often called an explosion, it was actually an enormous atmospheric explosion triggered by a meteoroid or comet entering Earth’s atmosphere. The object disintegrated mid-air, releasing energy equivalent to hundreds of Hiroshima atomic bombs. The blast flattened an estimated 2,000 square kilometers of forest, caused shockwaves around the world, and left no impact crater. It remains the most powerful impact event in recorded history to occur over land, providing valuable insights into space-object interactions with Earth.
