Tunguska event theories
The Tunguska event in 1908 was a massive explosion over Siberia, believed to have been caused by a meteoroid or small comet entering Earth's atmosphere. The explosion released energy equivalent to 10-15 megatons of TNT, flattening about 2,000 square kilometers of forest. Theories suggest it was a space object that exploded in the air before reaching the ground, explaining the lack of impact debris. Alternative ideas include a small comet or even unusual atmospheric phenomena. However, the most accepted explanation remains a high-altitude airburst of an extraterrestrial object, demonstrating the potential hazards of near-Earth space objects.
