Traumatic Bonding

Traumatic bonding refers to the strong emotional ties that can form between a person and their abuser, often in situations of ongoing trauma or abuse. This bond develops as the victim experiences both intense suffering and moments of warmth or affection from the abuser, creating a confusing attachment. The cycle of fear and relief reinforces these feelings, making it difficult for the victim to leave the relationship. Traumatic bonding is commonly seen in cases of domestic violence and hostage situations, where dependency and emotional investment can overshadow the victim's awareness of the abuse they endure.
