Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)

Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is a medical imaging technique used to examine the heart's structure and function. Unlike a standard echocardiogram, which uses a probe placed on the chest, TEE involves inserting a thin, flexible tube with a camera down the throat into the esophagus, which is close to the heart. This provides clearer images of the heart because it avoids interference from the lungs and ribs. TEE is often used to assess heart conditions, check for blood clots, or evaluate the effectiveness of heart treatments. It is typically performed under sedation for patient comfort.
