Total Fertility Rate

Total Fertility Rate (TFR) is a demographic measure that estimates the average number of children a woman would have over her lifetime based on current birth rates. It's calculated by summing the age-specific fertility rates for women in specific age groups, usually from 15 to 49 years. TFR helps demographers understand population growth trends: a TFR of about 2.1 is considered the replacement level, meaning the population can maintain itself without growth. A higher TFR indicates potential population growth, while a lower TFR may lead to population decline.
