The China One-Child Policy

The China One-Child Policy was a government regulation implemented from 1979 to curb rapid population growth by limiting most families to having only one child. It aimed to improve living standards and economic development but also led to unintended consequences such as gender imbalance and an aging population. Exceptions existed in certain regions and situations. In 2016, China officially replaced it with a two-child policy, and further relaxed the rules in subsequent years, reflecting changing demographic and social needs.
