Tissue Expansion Techniques
Tissue expansion is a medical technique used to grow extra skin for reconstructive purposes. It involves placing a balloon-like device, called a tissue expander, under the skin near an area that needs more skin, such as after an injury or surgery. Over time, the expander is gradually filled with saline solution, causing the skin to stretch and grow. Once enough skin has been created, the expander is removed and the new skin can be used to cover scars or other areas needing repair. This method helps improve cosmetic outcomes and enhances healing in specific areas.
