Tissue expansion
Tissue expansion is a medical technique used to grow extra skin for reconstructive purposes. A balloon-like device, called an expander, is inserted under the skin near the area needing repair. Over time, the expander is gradually filled with saline, causing the skin to stretch and grow new tissue. Once enough new skin has developed, the expander is removed, and the extra skin is used to restore or improve the affected area. This method helps achieve natural skin coverage, especially after injuries, surgeries, or removal of skin lesions.
