A thoracic CT scan is a special imaging test that creates detailed pictures of the chest, including the lungs, heart, and surrounding structures. It uses X-rays to produce cross-sectional images, allowing doctors to see areas that might be affected by diseases, injuries, or infections. This test is often used to diagnose conditions like pneumonia, tumors, or blockages in the lungs and blood vessels. It is quick and typically painless, although you may be asked to hold your breath for a few seconds while the scan is performed.
