Theories of Adult Learning
Theories of adult learning recognize that adults learn differently from children. Key concepts include andragogy, which emphasizes self-directed learning and practical application; experiential learning, where experiences are significant in the learning process; and transformative learning, where new perspectives are developed through critical reflection. Adults often draw on their life experiences, seek relevance in what they learn, and value collaborative learning environments. These theories suggest that for effective education, adult learners benefit from engaging actively, reflecting on their experiences, and connecting new knowledge to their existing frameworks.
