The Iron Cage
The "Iron Cage" is a concept introduced by sociologist Max Weber, representing the increasing rationalization and bureaucratization of society. It describes how modern life is dominated by rules, regulations, and efficiency, which can stifle creativity and individuality. In this metaphorical cage, people become trapped in predictable and controlled systems, prioritizing efficiency over human connection or freedom. While rational systems can enhance productivity, they can also lead to feelings of alienation and disenchantment, as individuals may feel reduced to mere cogs in a vast machine, losing touch with more personal or meaningful aspects of life.
