The Birmingham Six
The Birmingham Six were a group of six Irish men wrongfully convicted in 1975 for carrying out pub bombings in Birmingham, England, which killed 21 people. Their convictions were largely based on flawed police evidence and coerced confessions. After years of campaigning and legal challenges, their convictions were finally quashed in 1991 due to new evidence revealing serious police misconduct. The case highlighted issues of justice, wrongful convictions, and the treatment of the Irish community in Britain during a period of heightened tensions related to the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
