The 1745 Rising
The 1745 Rising, also known as the Jacobite Rising, was an attempt by Charles Edward Stuart, known as "Bonnie Prince Charlie," to reclaim the British throne for his father, James III. Supporters, mainly from Scotland, opposed the ruling Hanoverian dynasty. The uprising began in Scotland and initially succeeded, capturing Edinburgh. However, it ultimately failed at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. The defeat led to harsh reprisals against the Scots and marked the end of significant Jacobite resistance. The event remains a pivotal moment in Scottish history, symbolizing the struggle for Scottish autonomy and identity.
