Surrogate Mothers
A surrogate mother is a woman who agrees to carry and give birth to a baby for another person or couple who cannot conceive or carry a pregnancy themselves. The surrogate may be genetically related to the baby if her egg is fertilized with her partner's or a donor's sperm, or she may carry a fertilized embryo created using the intended parents' or donors' eggs and sperm. Surrogacy involves legal, medical, and emotional considerations, ensuring that all parties’ rights and responsibilities are clearly defined before the pregnancy begins.
