Supermax prison
A Supermax prison, short for "super-maximum security prison," is a high-level facility designed to house the most dangerous and violent criminals. These prisons have extremely tight security measures, including isolation cells, rigorous surveillance, and limited inmate movement to prevent escape and protect staff and the public. Inmates typically spend most of their time alone, away from others, to minimize risks. Supermax prisons often house individuals convicted of serious crimes, such as terrorism, organized crime, or serial offenses, and are intended to contain those considered a threat to society or prison safety.
