Sumo Wrestling

Sumo wrestling is a traditional Japanese sport where two competitors, known as rikishi, face off in a circular ring called a "dohyƍ." The goal is to force the opponent out of the ring or to make any part of their body, other than the soles of their feet, touch the ground. Sumo wrestlers wear a loincloth called a "mawashi," and matches emphasize strength, technique, and balance. Each bout is steeped in ritual, including ceremonies that honor the sport's ancient roots. Sumo has a rich cultural significance in Japan, reflecting values of discipline, respect, and tradition.
